Student Registration Information
As a student participant, you will join graduating teacher candidates from seven Christian colleges and universiities, including Grace College, Huntington University, Indiana Wesleyan University, Manchester College, Taylor University (Upland), and the University of Saint Francis at this year's Teacher Recruitment Day.
This event is designed for our graduating teacher candidates; however, the successfulness of the day will depend largely on you! In other words, how you choose to participate in the event and the quality of your interactions with each of the participating school systems will largely determine your success in this piece of your job search process.
Required Steps for Student Registration
Step One. The career center associated with your college/university will send registration materials to you. Depending on your particular career center, you may receive the information via campus mail and/or campus email. You may pick up registration materials at your college/university career center as well.
Step Two. Use the Student Registration Form to identify organizations with whom you would like to interview. You will select from a list of participating organizations who have registered for the event. Make sure your discipline (e.g., math, science, elementary education) is listed in the district's POSITIONS AVAILABLE listing before writing that school district's name on your Student Registration Form. The more schools you choose, the more schools with whom you may have the opportunity to interview.
Step Three. Return the Student Registration Form to the career center at your specific college/university no later than Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 4:00pm.
Step Four. Submit an electronic copy of your resume to the career center associated with your college/university by Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 4:00pm. (Please note -- you are not guaranteed a specific amount of interviews!)
- One copy of your resume will be placed in a CD document that will be distributed to all school districts at the event. (Resumes must be professional and represent you well in order to be included.)
- One copy will be made available to each of the school systems with whom you are scheduled to interview.
Step Five. The career center associated with your college/university will forward your interview schedule to you prior to Teacher Recruitment Day on Tuesday, April 10, 2012.
Step Six. Upon arriving at Teacher Recruitment Day, you will want to check in at the Student Registration Table (located on the first floor of the IWU Education Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana).
Selection Process for Student Interviews
We do our very best to create an interview schedule for you. However, please know that you WILL NOT receive all of the interviews that you request. There may be 50-75 requests to interview with a certain school district and only 9 interview slots available on that employer's schedule. This is the dilemna that we face in arranging the interview schedules. Our goals are to (1) fill the employer's schedules, and (2) do our very best to provide you with interviewing experiences.
Remember... you can always interact with school districts of interest to you (especially those with whom you do not receive an interview) during the Networking Period. You may also ask them for the Bonus Interview slot at the end of the day, or get on their schedule at the last minute (if another person assigned to interview does not show up for the interview).
Upon arriving for Teacher Recruitment Day, many students only begin the day with one scheduled interview, but by the end of the day, have had 2 or 3 interviews. Stay open and positive to the possibilities!
